Jenna is a sensitivity reader with several years’ experience. She is deaf, and has spent a good chunk of her life thinking about deaf representation - what it looks like, what it can accomplish, what it means when it’s inauthentic - and absolutely adores being part of making books better!

Becoming deaf as a teenager has lent her a unique perspective on deaf culture, hearing culture, and how they interact. And she also had an interval of being hard of hearing, so her own experiences really run the gamut!

She loves making connections and loves those “a-ha!” moments, when people gain a deeper understanding of why something that seemed innocuous (or even positive) actually is… not that. She’s on your side - anyone seeking out a sensitivity reader is invested in getting it right, and she’s just here to help you do that, with patience and humor. (And a bit too much fondness for puns.)

While she doesn’t love especially violent books, she will take all genres. Because representation is everywhere, and it all matters.

What Clients Say

format_quote

From start to finish, my experience with Salt & Sage has been extremely positive - from initial contact, through my Kickstarter campaign, and to final delivery, everybody I have dealt with has been highly professional, helpful, and skilled. I am so grateful for their help in getting my text in a better state, and I would really like to thank both the sensitivity reader and the support staff for getting the zine over the line!
