Trinica Sampson is a writer and freelance editor with experience as an Editorial Assistant at Utne Reader and The Antioch Review. She loves working with writers to make their novel, comic, video game dialogue, poetry, or personal essay the best version of itself that it can be. She thrives on the aha! moment when the teamwork between an editor and author brings a piece to the next level.

As a queer woman of color, she has particular experience and interest in reading own voices stories or assisting authors who are representing an identity with which they are unfamiliar. She prides herself on her empathy and clarity when guiding authors away from potential pitfalls and toward literary success for both themselves and their readers. However, her favorite part of editing will always be the opportunity to be your personal hype-woman, raving about your characters and particularly beautiful pieces of writing!

Trinica’s favorite pieces to read are YA, New Adult, and Middle Grade fiction. Her favorite genres are speculative fiction, science fiction, fantasy/fairytale, romance (especially of the queer variety!), dystopian, humor, mystery/suspense, and action/thrillers. She would be particularly excited to read for Caribbean settings/characters. Her personal practice is to come at every work from a client- and reader-centered, strengths-based approach to help your writing soar to new heights.

When she’s not reading, writing, or editing, Trinica can be found cooking Trinidadian recipes, fostering kittens, and trying to teach her dog to speak.

What Clients Say

Working with Trinica for a sensitivity read was a fantastic experience. She was so warm and encouraging, and found ways to make suggestions for extra authenticity even where there weren’t explicit “problems” to fix. My story will be better thanks to her help!
